Manitoba has had a vibrant Francophone community for over 200 years. It is comprised of people of French-speaking descent, as well as those who have a special affinity to the French language.
Recognizing the active contribution of this community to the growth of the province, the Act respecting the development of Manitoba’s Francophone community has sought, since 2016, to better protect and promote the development of Manitoba’s Francophonie.
Services in French
Among the measures to support the development of Manitoba’s Francophone community is the provision of services in French.
In fact, various government and paragovernmental departments and agencies, including four regional health authorities, have a mandate to provide French language services in designated bilingual regions.
Without being obliged to do so by law, many health establishments, clinics and others, make it a duty, an honour and a pleasure to offer services in French!
Your essential role
In the health care field, it has been proven that Francophones who receive services in their language feel more confident. They are more medically safe and benefit from more effective treatments.
By actively offering health care services in French, you are unquestionably improving the health of a community that participates in the success of our province. All of Manitoba wins!
What is it to offer “actively”?
Within the meaning of the law, it is not enough that these services simply exist. These services must be visible and be offered openly and explicitly (see Active Offer).
